Rodolfo “Rudy” Gilberto Coronado, 69, of Battle Creek, passed away on Thursday November 7, 2019 at Bronson Hospital, Battle Creek. He was born on January 14, 1950 in Port Huron, Michigan, though his mom would argue it was after midnight and claimed it was the 15th.
He was the son of Gabriel Coronado and Mary Chavez Coronado. Rudy graduated from Port Huron High School in 1968. He joined the United States Air Force in 1968, completing basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas and tech schooling in Biloxi, Mississippi. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He then served in the Air National Guard as a jet engine mechanic. He worked on F16s at Selfridge ANGB and A10 Warthogs in Battle Creek until his retirement. He continued his hard work at the Hart-Doyle-Inouye Federal Center, retiring from there respectively. He traveled to Aviano, Italy, Kuwait and Alaska during his service as well. He loved his country very much.
He was joined in marriage on June 10, 1989 to Janet Zigo. They were happily married for 30 years. Rudy loved the Detroit Tigers and Lions, even when they were having bad seasons. He was an avid U of M fan. He regularly shot pool with friends at The Springfield Tavern. He loved playing golf with his sons. He was a long time member of the American Legion Post #298.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Lisa Warner-Gunwall of Texas, Gabriel Coronado of Michigan, Daniel Coronado of Hawaii, Cristina Coronado of Colorado, and Amanda Coronado-Bartlett of Michigan; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews, and siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at 2:00 at Baxter Funeral & Cremation, with the family receiving friends from 12:00 to 2:00.
