Obituary for Frank Elkins Jr.

Frank Elkins, Jr., 68, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at home. He was born on October 19, 1951 in Clintwood, Virginia, the son of Frank Elkins, Sr. and Helen (Sims) Elkins, both of whom predeceased him. Frank graduated from Springfield High School in 1969. While in high school, he met and started dating Karen Thunder of Lacey. He and Karen married in 1970 and were celebrating 49 years of blissful marriage at the time of his passing.

In addition to Karen, he is survived by his sons Toby (Hannah) Elkins of Battle Creek, Patrick (Esmé) Elkins of Ridgewood, New Jersey, and Justin (Amber) Elkins of Three Rivers, Michigan; his loving grandchildren Violett, Kurt, Luke, James, Abigail, and David; his sisters Alice (Elkins) Francis and Carol (Elkins) Dougherty; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and other close family and friends.

Frank worked for many years as a carpenter having started in the business with his father and uncle’s construction company. He retired in 2013 to spend more time with his family whom he loved dearly. He was always the person you would call in the family whenever there was a project that needed doing. He especially loved—and hated—working on cars, a passion going back to his days “cruising the gut” while in high school. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

In accordance with Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on November 2, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1312 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015.
