Obituary for Charles Henry Hayes
Charles Henry Hayes, 85, of Springfield, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019. He was born on May 24, 1934, the son of the late Charlie Leonard Hayes and Mary Edith (Pettyjohn) Hayes. Chuck began working in the Battle Creek School system as a custodian in 1960, shortly after he started at Oldsmobile in Lansing as an auto worker. He began his family in 1958 with his wife Pat in her home town of Sturgis, MI. He loved his country and flag and served faithfully in the U.S Army.
Chuck is survived by his two daughters, Teresa (Andrew) Jones and Tammie Latta; son, Rickey (Amy) Hayes; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several siblings to numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia Ann Hayes and son, Rustey Hayes.
Chuck enjoyed coaching little league and high school baseball at Lakeview. He loved to work with his hands and make things in the pole barn. He adored his family and grandchildren.
In accordance with Charles' wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will take place in the Fort Custer National Cemetery at 12:00 pm, on Friday, October 25, 2019. a Celebration of Life will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Family will be receiving friends the hour before the celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles' name may be made to the Kool Family Community Center, 200 W. Michigan Ave. Battle Creek, MI 49017.
